World War IIDS Dokka
DS Dokka was on a journey in convoy and with ballast from Milford Haven to Quebec. On the 17th of October 1940, the ship was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-93 in position 6046N, 1630W. The aft section was blown away and the Dokka sank in a vertical position within a minute. Nine Norwegians, one Irish, among the killed were the entire machinist crew. Seven sailors jumped overboard and managed to climb on board on rafts. The U-boat went through the wreckage and then called on the crew on the rafts, but disappeared once an escort ship approached. The very same escort ship picked up the survivors.
