World War IIMT Barfonn
MT Barfonn was on a journey in convoy from Texas City to Clyde with 13450 ton gasoline. MT Barfonn was sunk at the 17th of October 1941 by the German U-boat U-432 in the position 57N, 2430W. The entire crew was ready at the lifeboats when the assault started. The lifeboats were quickly lowered to the water surface and sticked close to the ship with 23 passengers. Seven men decided to stay at the ship, as they believed the ship would stay afloat, but a new torpedo struck the ship and four men were flung off the ship.The two others managed to get on a raft and was rescued by a Corvette. The passengers in the lifeboats was also rescued by a Corvette. Eight Norwegians, two Canadians, Two Britons, a Swede and a Dane perished in the sinking.
