World War IDS Nidelven
DS Nidelven was struck by a mine from the German uboat UC-29 on April 27, 1917, northeast of Coquet Island. The ship was en route from Tyne to Svolvær with coal and passengers. Two crew members and the Russian passenger Lapaychuk lost their lives in the shipwreck. The survivors were rescued by British naval vessels and taken to Leith.
