World War IDS Tysla
DS Tysla was struck by a mine on August 7, 1914, off Vlissingen in the Netherlands. The ship was en route from Port Pirie to Antwerp carrying a cargo of lead and zinc ore when it struck a Dutch mine. Three people lost their lives in the shipwreck. Tysla became the first Norwegian casualty of war during World War I. (Source: Sjøhistorie.no)
