World War IIron-hulled ship Vestdal

Iron-hulled ship Vestdal was sunk by artillery fire on April 24, 1917, by the German U-boat U-70. The ship was en route from Pensacola to Greenock, carrying a cargo of timber. One person lost their his life in the shipwreck. The crew was later rescued by the British steamship Hackensack, which itself was sunk by the German U-boat U-82. It was during the final torpedoing that one of the crew members from Vestdal died. Shortly thereafter, the survivors from both ships were rescued by a British cruiser. (Source: Sjøhistorie.no)
