World War IBarque Eglantine
Barque Eglantine was sunk by artillery on June 19, 1918, by the German U-boat U-86 in the North Sea. The ship was en route from West Hartlepool to Porsgrunn carrying a cargo of coal. Eight people lost their lives in the shipwreck. Sailor Haakon Olsen from Fredrikstad was later rescued by the British cruiser Curacao as the only survivor. (Source: Sjøhistorie.no)
