MT Vivi was in port in New York when an accident occurred on January 5, 1945, which cost the lives of nine crew members. A Panamanian-registered ship collided with an American tanker loaded with gasoline, causing an explosion and subsequent fire. Burning gasoline flooded the harbor. Vivi, which was only 50 meters from the accident site, was ignited and caught fire. The Navy and fire department were eventually able to control the flames. Vivi was salvaged, but nine crew members lost their lives in the incident. The ship was scrapped in 1955.
