World War IISS Oregonian
The SS Oregonian was sunk by a German air-launched torpedo on September 13, 1942, southwest of Svalbard. The vessel was en route from New York to Arkhangelsk with steel, food, tanks, and aircraft in convoy PQ-18. Twenty-nine people lost their lives, and 14 people were rescued.
