World War IIDS Lab

On the 19th of November 1942, DS Lab was attacked by several high-speed German E-boats, 11 nautical miles WSW by the Eddystone lighthouse in The English Channel. An escort vessel and two other merchant ships along with Lab were sunk.  The attack took place during clear weather and moonlight. Lab was struck by two torpedoes, one in the aft where three men were killed. The crew boarded a lifeboat and shortly after the vessel sunk. The lifeboat was taken in by a minesweeper and was brought to Plymouth. Two Norwegians and one Estonian sailor perished in the sinking.
