World War IIDS Dukat
The DS Dukat was en route from Bangkok to Hong Kong with rice and general cargo when, on 8 December 1941, the ship was captured by Japanese forces and brought to a port north of Hong Kong. Here, Dukat was declared a war prize and taken over by the Japanese. On 1 January 1942, five Norwegian officers from Dukat were interned in Kulangsu. The Norwegian officers were later transferred to Shanghai and, at the end of May 1945, were transported to Yokohama. In the meantime, one of the officers had died from heart disease. Under Japanese control, Dukat was renamed Amoi Maru. The ship sank on 19 August 1943 after running aground off Dairen (Dalian).
