World War IIDS Eikhaug
SS Eikhaug was on a journey in convoy from Southend to Grangemouth, carrying 1745 tons of cement. On the 7th of September 1941, 1,5 nautical miles east of Sheringham, the vessel was attacked by German E-boats and torpedoed. The aft section was under water and the sea came tumbling forward like a great wave. Four men on the deck were washed overboard and when they resurfaced Eikhaug was gone. The four men clung to debris and heard shouting from several of the crewmembers in the sea. 12 Norwegians, two Britons and a Spaniard perished in the sinking.
