World War IIDS Svint
The DS Svint was part of a coastal convoy between Falmouth and Milford Haven, carrying a cargo of coal destined for Plymouth. On 10 July 1941, Svint was attacked by a German bomber seven nautical miles off Kellan Head Trevorse. Water flooded in after the damage to the engine room, which was filled with steam when the steam pipes burst. A large leak developed on one side of the ship. As the water quickly rose, all crew members were ordered into lifeboats. Svint was taken under tow by two naval vessels, but after a few hours, the ship sank. One man perished in the sinking.
