World War IIDS Fjord

SS Fjord was on a journey from Aguilas, Spain, to Barrow via Gibraltar, loaded with 5900 tons of iron ore. On the 2nd of December 1941, in Spanish territorial waters cirka 3 nautical miles outside Estepona Point, the vessel was torpedoed by the German uboat U-557. The vessel sank right away and none of the crew members had the time and chance to ready the rescue equipment before jumping overboard. Two rafts emerged and 22 men boarded them. 11 Norwegians, one Estonian, one Briton and one Canadian perished in the sinking.
