World War IIMT John P. Pedersen
MT John P. Pedersen was in a convoy loaded with 9000 tons of fuel oil on its way to Clyde. This convoy was attacked by five German U-boats. John P. Pedersen was torpedoed the 20th of May 1941 by the German U-boat U-94 150 nautical miles from Greenland. Everyone aboard the ship managed to get into the lifeboats. One of these boats, the captains boat, disappeared but was spotted by a plane around the coordinates of 59N and 40W with 12 passengers who were alive and 5 dead This was reported to the navy office in Reykjavik at the 8th of June, but no rapport arrived that they had been saved. In total 21 people perished; 13 Norwegians, two Dutch, two Swedes and four Britons
