World War IIDS Samlanes
SS Samlanes was on a journey from Swansea to Shoreham. On the 13th of March 1941, the vessel hit a mine outside Lizard Head, Cornwall. A rescue boat was immediately sent from shore, but no survivors were found amongst the wreckage. 13 Norwegians, an Irishman and a Swedish sailor perished in the sinking.
