World War IIMS Oslofjord
The Norwegian MS Oslofjord was blown up by a mine on 1 December 1940 at the mouth of the River Tyne. The vessel was en route from the Clyde, where it had been fitted out as a troop transport. Following the explosion, the ship was beached, where it remained in heavy onshore seas. The strain eventually caused the vessel to break in two and become a total loss. One man was lost in the sinking.
