The Norwegian DS Hundvaag was en route from Immingham to Dover with 760 tons of coal when the vessel was blown up by a mine on 1 November 1940 near South Goodwin off Dover. Shortly before, the ship had come under attack by German aircraft but escaped without damage. After the air attack, Hundvaag returned and rescued six men from a British vessel before being blown up by a mine and sinking within five minutes. One stoker was lost in the sinking, and 14 were rescued.
