World War IIDS Stalheim
The Norwegian DS Stalheim was en route to Barry, United Kingdom, with a cargo of coal when the vessel was blown up by a magnetic mine off Port Talbot on 31 July 1940. In Barry, the ship was scheduled to have a degaussing system installed and was therefore unprotected against magnetic mines. Stalheim sank within four minutes. Five men were lost, and thirteen were seriously injured. Only three crew members escaped the sinking without injury.
