World War IIDS Sørøy

The Norwegian DS Sørøy operated on the Porsanger–Laksefjord route. The vessel had departed from Honningsvåg and was anchored at Sværholt on 19 January 1942 when it was attacked by the Soviet U-boat K-23. The submarine attempted to torpedo the ship, but both torpedoes struck land. The vessel was then set on fire by shellfire from the submarine and sank the following day. A postal clerk and a passenger were lost in the sinking.
