World War IIMS Ransæter

The Norwegian MS Ransæter was carrying transshipment cargo for Nordenfjeldske to Bodø, along with a partial load from Thamshavn. In addition to a crew of eight, the vessel had four passengers on board, as well as the captain’s wife and 13-year-old daughter. On 17 July 1943, the ship struck a mine in Sørfolla, Nordland, and sank southwest of Prestmåsøy. Ransæter was navigating according to directions given by the German harbour authorities in Bodø, yet still ended up in a German minefield. Four crew members perished, along with the captain’s young daughter.
