World War IIMS Skramstad
The Norwegian MS Skramstad was taken over in April 1940 by the Kriegsmarinedienststelle Oslo, though it retained a Norwegian crew. Despite operating under German control, the vessel continued to fly the Norwegian flag and displayed Norwegian nationality markings painted on its hull during assignments along the Norwegian coast.
On 4 October 1943, while en route from Trondheim to Narvik with more than 800 German soldiers on board, Skramstad was attacked by Allied aircraft near Rødøy on the Helgeland coast and set on fire. The crew managed to beach the vessel at Svinvær, where it burned out. One Norwegian crew member was killed in the attack. The wreck was later scrapped in 1948.
