World War IIMS Balzac
MV Balzac was sunk on 26th july 1940 by a magnetic mine while anchoring outside of Sunderland. At the final in the machine a magnetic mine went off under the ship and it broke in half. Everyone on the bridge, in the machine room and the british Pilot perished. Nine men perished in the sinking and 11 were rescued by a nearby Pilot boat.
