World War IStålbark Carla

The steel barque Carla was sunk on March 14, 1918, by a German U-boat. The ship was en route from Le Havre to Hampton Roads in ballast. The captain lost his life during the lowering of the lifeboat, which was taking place under shellfire from the U-boat. (Source: Sjøhistorie.no)
