World War IDS Prosper III
DS Prosper III was struck by a mine on June 6, 1916. The ship was en route from Newport, VA to La Pallice with a cargo of railway tracks. Eighteen Norwegians, six Americans, two Britons, one Dane, one Spaniard, and one Dutchman lost their lives in the shipwreck. One person was later rescued from a capsized lifeboat. The ship likely struck a drifting mine. (Source: Sjøhistorie.no and Med norsk skib i verdenskrigen)
