World War IBark Oryx
Barque Oryx likely foundered in the North Sea on November 22, 1916. The ship was en route from Tyne to Larvik with a cargo of coal. Later, a message in a bottle from the ship was found at Strova in Romsdal, which read, “We are sinking tonight 10 miles off Aberdeen. November 22nd, 1916.” The entire crew of 7 Norwegians and 1 Finn lost their lives in the sinking.
