World War IIDS Selbo
SS Selbo was used as an ammunition/supply ship during the allied invasion of North Africa in November 1942. The ship was one of the first ships that sailed to Algiers. On the 27th of November 1942 the ship was directed towards Bone with her cargo which consisted of cans with petroleum. At the 28th of November 1942 the ship was attacked by German aircraft 15 nautical miles from Cape Cavallo. An aerial torpedo hit the afterbody which caused the cargo to explode which again resulted the ship to sink. Several crewmembers dived into the sea, they also managed to save one of the motorboats before it was set ablaze. Eight men boarded this motorboat. Only nine of the men who dove into the sea was rescued by an escort ship and was brought to Bone. Two men passed away after being brought to Bone. In total 13 men, 10 Norwegians and three Britons perished in the sinking.
