World War IIDS Trolla
SS Trolla was on a journey on a westward convoy from Oversay at the 16th of August 1942 along with 36 ships. The Convoy was attacked by several German uboats and Trolla was torpedoed at the 25th of August by the German U-boat U-438 in the position 4855N, 3510W. Four men at the aft of the boat was flung into the ocean, 10 men managed to get into a lifeboat, three men found a raft, while the others dived into the ocean. The Norwegian Corvette Potentilla stopped and rescued 17 survivors from Ds. Trolla. Five perished in the sinking. The first Machinist Oskar Næss was mortally wounded and died on the 28th of August in a hospital in St. Johns.
