World War IIDS Trolla

DS Trolla seilte i vestgående konvoi fra Oversay 16. august 1942 sammen med 36 skip. Konvoien ble angrepet av flere tyske ubåter og Trolla ble torpedert 25. august av den tyske ubåten U-438 i posisjon 4855N og 3510W. Fire mann akter ble slengt i sjøen, 10 mann kom seg i livbåt, tre mann kom klar med flåte. Andre i mannskapet hoppet til sjøs. Den norske korvetten Potentilla stoppet og tok opp 17 overlevende fra Trolla. Fem mann omkom. 1. maskinist Oskar Næss ble hardt såret og døde 28. august på sykehus i St. Johns.

SS Trolla was on a journey on a westward convoy from Oversay at the 16th of August 1942 along with 36 ships. The Convoy was attacked by several German uboats and Trolla was torpedoed at the 25th of August by the German uboat U-438 in the position 4855N, 3510W. Four men at the aft of the boat was flung into the ocean, 10 men managed to get into a lifeboat, three men found a raft, while the others dived into the ocean. The Norwegian Corvette Potentilla stopped and rescued 17 survivors from Ds. Trolla. Five perished in the sinking. The first Machinist Oskar Næss was mortally wounded and died on the 28th of August in a hospital in St. Johns.
