World War IINils Hjalmar Beckmann

Niels Beckmann was on MS Herstein which was attacked by Japanese aircraft in Rabaul, New Britan. The crew was captured and sent aboard the Japanese SS Montevideo Maru. Beckmann died July 1, 1942 when the japanese ship was torpedoed in the Pacific Ocean. None of the 1054 prisoners on board were rescued.
