World War IBarque Mentor
Barque Mentor was torpedoed and severely damaged on July 4, 1918, by the German U-boat UB-21, approximately 12 nautical miles off Hartlepool. The ship was en route from Svelvik to West Hartlepool, carrying a cargo of props. The ship’s captain lost his life, and one person was seriously injured. The wreckage floated on the cargo and was later towed to shore and condemned.
