World War IIron Bark Mountain Laurel
Iron bark Mountain Laurel was torpedoed on June 22, 1918, by the German U-boat UB-73, approximately 25 nautical miles off Rathlin. The ship was en route from Barrow to
Iceland carrying a cargo of coal. Out of the 12 crew members, only the Spanish seaman Francisco Anstiago Armas survived the shipwreck and was rescued the following day by a British trawler.
