World War IDS Peter Hamre
DS Peter Hamre was torpedoed by the German U-boat UB-10 on April 1, 1916, while the vessel was anchored between Kentish Knock and Shipwash. The ship was en route from Middlesbrough to Rouen with a cargo of pig iron. Fourteen people lost their lives in the shipwreck.
