World War IDS Asbjørn
DS Asbjørn was torpedoed on March 10, 1917, by the German U-boat UC-21 near Ushant lighthouse. The ship was en route from Barry Dock to Lisbon carrying 4500 tons of coal. Shortly after being torpedoed, the ship began to list rapidly, forcing 5 crew members to jump into the sea, while the rest of the crew managed to get into lifeboats. The survivors were later rescued by a French naval vessel and taken to Brest. Regrettably, 1 person lost his life in the sinking. (Source: Sjøhistorie.no)
