World War IDS Bergsdalen
DS Bergsdalen was torpedoed on August 27, 1918, by the German U-boat U-117 off Cape Race. The ship was en route from La Pallice to Baltimore in ballast. Tragically, the third engineer lost his life when one of the lifeboats capsized. The survivors were later rescued by a Swedish steamship. (Sources: Sjøhistorie.no and Med norsk skib i verdenskrigen)
