World War IDS Bergsli
DS Bergsli, was sunk by a mine on March 19, 1917, laid by the German U-boat UC-70 near Chassiron Lighthouse. The ship was on a voyage from Penarth to Blaye carrying a cargo of coal. Unfortunately, 4 persons lost their lives in the sinking. (Note that the ship’s name was changed from Avra to Bergsli in November 1916. The name Avra is used in the maritime enquiry.)
