World War IIDS Bjergfin
The Norwegian DS Bjergfin was carrying 15,000 sacks of flour from Stavanger for northbound transport when the vessel was attacked by Allied aircraft on 25 January 1945 in the Eidfjord near Askvoll. Shells struck the boiler room, causing one of the boilers to emit thick smoke, which severely hampered the rescue efforts. The ship’s master was killed, and two crew members were seriously injured.
The vessel had previously been named Svanholm, which was sunk in April 1940 off Tustria. It was later salvaged and returned to service in 1942 under the new name Bjergfin.
