World War IDS Falkland
DS Falkland was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-55 on August 12, 1917, off Mine Head. The ship was en route from Philadelphia to Liverpool, carrying oil and lubricating oil. Among the casualties were eight unnamed Chinese stokers and the six-year-old son of the ship’s master, H.L. Eriksen. Another Chinese stoker later died on land due to injuries from the shipwreck.
