World War IIDS Fidelio
On the 9th of November 1942 SS Fidelio was on a journey in convoy from Becton to Tyne, which laid in ballast outside Lowestoft. On the very same day, the ship was attacked by four German E-boats. The entire after section was blown up and seven men, who had their cabins located there, were supposedly killed. The rest of the crew evacuated safely to the lifeboats and floated next to Fidelio as it sunk. One hour later they were picked up by a tugboat that brought them the next morning to Great Yarmouth.
