World War IIDS Glitrefjell
The DS Glitrefjell was torpedoed on 16 December 1939 by the German U-boat U-59 off the east coast of Scotland. The vessel sank immediately. Thirteen men survived after managing to launch two lifeboats. After nine hours adrift, they were rescued by a Greek ship and brought ashore in Leith, Scotland. Five crew members lost their lives in the sinking.
