World War IIDS Hallfried
SS Hallfried was on a journey in convoy from Huelva to Ardrossan, carrying 4.800-ton copper ore. On October 31st 1943 the ship was torpedoed by the German uboat U-262 in position 4605N, 2026W. The first torpedo struck in front of the bridge. Immediately the next torpedo detonated between the bridge and engine room. The loaded ore ship sunk immediately. 31 men perished in the sinking, there were only three survivors.
