World War IDS Helgøy
DS Helgøy was sunk by the German U-boat UB-39 on January 3, 1917, off Chassiron lighthouse. The ship was en route from Blaye to Barry Roads in ballast (without cargo). One person lost his life in the shipwreck. The survivors were rescued by French fishing vessels. (Source: Sjøhistorie.no)
