World War IIDS Isbjørn
SS Isbjørn was on a journey from Swansea to Poole. On the night of 17th of December 1944, a storm was brewing. The ship went through the waves and the cargo shifted. The ship capsized and took seven men to the depth, whereas five from the engine room. 11 men managed to get onto two rafts and a boat filled with water. Later that day they were taken in to Dartmouth. There was another ship named Isbjørn which were used to bring people to the shore of Svalbard, that were sunk by German aircraft in Grønfjorden at Svalbard earlier in the war.
