World War IDS Kolaastind
DS Kolaastind was sunk on April 11, 1917, by the German U-boat U-30 east of Shetland. The ship was en route from New York to Stockholm, carrying gas oil in bulk and in barrels. Four people lost their lives in the shipwreck. Several others were severely injured when the cargo caught fire. Twenty-three survivors were later rescued by the Norwegian ship DS Galathea and brought to Bergen. (Sources: Sjøhistorie.no and “Med norsk skib i verdenskrigen”)
