World War IDS Leka
DS Leka was sunk by the German U-boat UC-71 on September 24, 1917, east of Flamborough Head. The ship was en route from Santander to Sunderland, carrying a cargo of iron ore. Seventeen people lost their lives in the shipwreck. The helmsman and the lookout were rescued as the only survivors by a British minesweeper.
