World War IDS Matti
DS Matti was damaged by a torpedo from the German U-boat UC-71 on September 22, 1917, near Flamborough Head. The ship was en route from Rouen, France, to Tyne in ballast (without cargo). Three people lost their lives in the attack. DS Matti was later repaired and sailed under new owners until it was wrecked in 1929. (Source: Sjøhistorie.no)
