World War IIDS Nordvangen

SS Nordvangen was on a journey with a load of bauxite from Paramaribo to New Orleans via Trinidad. The ship was expected in Trinidad on the 20th of February 1942, but it was not until the 6th of March that a message came that pieces of a lifeboat marked with Nordvangen and remains of a deckhouse had washed ashore on Trinidad. Later, sources has revealed that the ship was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-129 on the 20th of February outside the entrance of the Orinoco River in Venezuela. 19 Norwegians, 4 Dutch and one Dane perished in the sinking.
