World War IIDS Nyland
The Norwegian SS Nyland was en route from Methil to British Guiana via the north of Scotland when the vessel ran aground on 6 December 1940 in bad weather on West Rock, Isle of Iona, and sank. A tug was dispatched to assist but found no trace of the vessel or its crew. Twelve Norwegians, two Swedes, two Canadians, one Dutchman, one Newfoundlander, one Dane, and one Briton were lost in the sinking.
