World War IDS Orion
DS Orion was torpedoed by the German U-boat UC-41 on March 1, 1917. The ship was en route from Narvik to Middlesbrough with a cargo of iron ore. The entire crew perished in the wreck. The exact number of crew members on board is uncertain. Aftenposten reported on March 23, 1917, that there were a total of 17 people on board, while Diderik Brochmann in the book Med norsk skib i verdenskrigen from 1928 stated 19 – the same number as Uboat.net provides. Minnehallen.no has documented 15 deceased Norwegian sailors among the crew.
