World War IDS Peer Gynt
DS Peer Gynt was torpedoed by the German U-boat UC-47 on August 23, 1917, northeast of Godrevy Lighthouse. The ship was en route from Port Talbot to Rouen, France, carrying coal. Four people lost their lives in the shipwreck. The survivors spent ten hours on a raft in the Bristol Channel before being rescued by a French vessel and brought ashore in Swansea.
