World War IIDS Reiås
The SS Reiås participated in the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944, transporting 200 British soldiers and war supplies. On its second trip to the Seine Bay, Reiås collided with the British merchant vessel Folda on June 13. Two British Royal Marines lost their lives in the sinking. The survivors were taken back to the United Kingdom.
